U.S. Stock Indexes Posted Best One-day Performance, HK Stocks Opened Lower

U.S. Stocks 

Fundamental Analysis: 

The three major U.S. stock indexes posted their best one-day performance in more than a month on Tuesday, 19th April 2022.

Nasdaq’s closing was up by 2.2%, the Dow’s closing was up by 1.5% and the S&P 500 closing was up by 1.6%.

The major indexes posted their biggest one-day gains since 16th March 2022 as investors responded to positive corporate earnings reports and dovish statements from two Federal Reserve officials on interest rate hikes.

During this interval, Johnson & Johnson surged 3.1%, hitting a record closing high for the second time in three sessions, after the company beat market expectations for quarterly profit and announced a dividend hike.

Out of the 49 S&P 500 component companies that have reported results, 79.6% have beaten profit expectations, according to Refinitiv data. Typically, the percentage that exceeds expectations is 66%.

Technical Analysis: 

(Dow 30, 1-hour chart) 

Execution Insight: 

The Dow focuses on the 35110-line today. If the Dow runs stably below the 35110-line, it will pay attention to the support strength of the 34724 and 34477 positions. If the Dow breaks above the 35110-line, it will pay attention to the suppression strength of the 35308 and 35512 positions.

Hong Kong Stocks 

Fundamental Analysis: 

Hong Kong stocks opened lower, with Hang Seng Index (HSI) down by 0.26%, Hang Seng China Enterprises Index (HSCEI) down by 0.43%, and Hang Seng TECH Index (HSTECH) down by 0.16%.

On the market, large technology stocks were mixed, with Meituan (3690.HK), Kuaishou Technology (1024.HK) and Tencent Holdings Limited (0700.HK) opening slightly higher, while Alibaba Group Holding Limited (9988.HK), Baidu, Inc. (9888.HK) and JD.com, Inc. (9618.HK) were lower.

Education stocks, sporting goods stocks, domestic insurance stocks, biomedical stocks, heavy machinery stocks, domestic housing stocks and property management stocks mostly rebounded yesterday’s decline, with China Education Group Holdings Limited (0839.HK) up by nearly 5%.

On the other hand, gold, oil, coal and other energy sectors fell, with Shandong Gold Mining Co., Ltd. (1787.HK) down by 3.4% and China Merchants Bank Co., Ltd. (3968.HK) again opened 1.8% lower.

Technical Analysis: 

(HK50, 1-hour chart) 

Execution Insight: 

HK50 focuses on the 22127-line today. If HK50 can run stably below the 22127-line, then pay attention to the support strength of the two positions of 21450 and 20467. If the HK50 runs above the 22127-line, then pay attention to the suppression strength of the two positions of 22785 and 23294.

FTSE China A50 Index 

Technical Analysis: 

(FTSE China A50, 1-hour chart) 

Execution Insight: 

FTSE China A50 pays attention to the 13983-line today. If the A50 runs steadily below the 13983-line, pay attention to the support strength of the 13157 and 12733 positions. If the A50 runs above the 13983-line, it will open up further upward space. At that time, pay attention to the suppression of the 14669-line.
